Student Hourly-Research


Position Overview

The Center for Public Partnerships and Research (CPPR), a designated center within The Achievement & Assessment Institute (AAI), seeks a student hourly employee to support various research activities including data analysis, focus group facilitation, and literature reviews, as well as other general office and support tasks. CPPR specializes in applied research, systems transformation, change management, and social innovation work that supports our mission to optimize the well-being of children, youth, and families. CPPR primarily pursues its mission by assisting partners, including state-level and community-based organizations, in their work to secure funding, bring key stakeholders to the table, orchestrate large-scale data efforts, and conduct research, and evaluation. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about social change for good.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

40% Data management
  • Data collection
  • Data entry
  • Data preparation and cleaning
  • Data analysis
  • Other data tasks as assigned
40% Administrative support
  • Assist with mailing materials for research projects to participants and staff
  • Clerical tasks and other general office duties as assigned
20% Dissemination support
  • Assist with literature review activities
  • Assist with writing, proofreading, compiling, and printing project materials

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
  2. 6 months of experience in a position that required attention to detail and strong organizational skills as evidenced by application materials.
  3. 6 months of experience demonstrating the ability to work both independently and as part of a team as evidenced in application materials.
  4. At least 1 year of experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office as evidenced in application materials.
  5. Excellent writing skills as evidenced in application materials.
  6. Availability to work mostly during the hours of 8am-5pm M-F, with some evenings and weekends possible.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Availability to work onsite at CPPR’s Lawrence office.
  2. Academic background in human-service related field, such as social work, psychology, sociology, etc.
  3. Knowledge of or strong desire and commitment to learn about the child welfare and prevention fields.
  4. Experience in research (e.g., coursework, literature reviews, data entry).
  5. Ability to read and speak in a language other than English.
  6. Knowledge of KU and/or experience with KU offices (e.g., orientation of students, first year experience).
