Student Hourly Resident Assistant POOL
Position Overview
The Jayhawk Media Workshop (JMW) is looking for Student Resident Assistants for the 59th JMW, scheduled for June 11-15, 2023, at the University of Kansas. This year, the workshop is also partnering with the Native Storytelling Workshop, which was founded last year.
Job Description
The Jayhawk Media Workshop welcomes more than 100 high school students to campus for training in journalism, preparation for their next year on the publications’ staffs, and an introduction to life at KU. We bring lots of Rock Chalk spirit paired with media expertise!
Student Resident Assistants will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to:
60% - Supervising campers. Resident Assistants will be on duty overnight and stay in the residence hall (Self Hall) with the JMW campers. They will work with the director of JMW to ensure that all camp, KU, and residence hall rules are followed and that students make their way safely to and from classes. They will also be responsible for helping students with homework.
20% - Helping run registration, leading campus tours, supervising campers and helping JMW teachers with instruction
20% - Participating in fun camp activities, such as picnic dinner and games

Required Qualifications
- Must have availability from the morning of Sunday, June 11, 2023 to the afternoon of Thursday, June 15, 2023; most working hours needed are in the evening.
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the time of the appointment.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check prior to beginning work.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with youth
- Journalism major or minor or experience/involvement with KU student media
