Position Overview
Student Advisory Board Coordinator
The Dole Institute of Politics hosts a variety of programs during the academic year, such as political discussions, interview sessions, and roundtable discussions.The Dole Institute of Politics’ Student Advisory Board (SAB) is a way for dedicated students to get involved and volunteer their time and energy. It is a group of students that are interested in politics, public service, and leadership, and take part in volunteer, educational, and social events as well as monthly meetings organized by the SAB Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Student Affairs. We are currently hiring a Student Advisory Board Coordinator to lead and serve as the face of the SAB.
It's required to be a current, active SAB member to apply for this position.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

10% Administrative Responsibilities
- Organize and lead 4 SAB meetings per semester, including: prepare the meeting agendas with the Director and Director of Programs; assemble the meeting slides from other student staff, promoting meetings through free campus media and email listservs; ordering refreshments if necessary; greeting attendees; and print, set out/circulate and gather attendee sign-in sheets at each meeting and update SAB member database regularly.
- Lead group discussions on politics, current events, policy, and government.
- Represent the Dole Institute at Dole Institute events and official University events.
- Present SAB updates annually to the Dole Institute Board of Advisors.
- Manage the Student Advisory Board budget and have suspending approved by Dole Institute staff.
- Oversee and direct the Social Chair and Service Chair in planning social and service events for the Student Advisory Board.
30% Program Development and Execution
- Organize and plan three annual SAB events (Partio, Brinner, SAB Program). Coordinate guest speakers for these programs, create interview question lists and get them approved by the Director.
- Organize and plan the annual Student Recognition Banquet for one evening in the first week of May; order and give out the necessary awards to students.
- Meet with the Director and the Director of Programs and Student Affairs once a week for task updates and program development check ins.
- Draft run of shows as needed for SAB events.
30% Outreach and Communications
- Respond to all work-related emails in a timely manner.
- Draft weekly newsletters sent to all members of the Student Advisory Board.
- Decide on design and place order for SAB shirts each year.
- Recruit new students to join SAB and respond to all membership inquiries, including tabling at campus events, flyers on campus, manage social media posts, email organizations and departments.
- Identify partnership opportunities throughout campus and make suggestions to the Director of Programs and Student Affairs.
- Identify SAB members for event dinners and opportunities.
10% Administrative Responsibilities
- Attend regular student assistant meetings, including weekly marketing meetings.
- Coordinate with other student workers to assist with Discussion Groups, Pizza & Politics events, and regular nightly programming at the Dole Institute.
- When in the Dole Institute office, provide administrative support including answering the phone, greeting visitors, and assisting with special projects as assigned by staff.
- Assist with general event set-up and tear-down including moving chairs, tables, and other event related furniture.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least a sophomore currently.
- Served at least one semester and be a member in good standing on the Dole Institute Student Advisory Board
- Previous work or leadership experience in the SAB
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials
- Availability on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00pm to conduct regular SAB meetings, and availability Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings to work at Dole Institute programs.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

- Past participation in Dole Institute events or programs
- Experience in event planning
- Eligible for federal work study

Advertised Salary Range
$11.50/hr
Work Schedule
