Student Hourly - Undergraduate Research Assistant


Position Overview

Dr. Yvonnes Chen of the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications has an opening for an undergraduate research assistant for a grant project during Fall 2022 and spring 2023. This position focuses on social science research.

Job Description

The undergraduate student assistant will provide support on the following research tasks in Fall 2022 and spring 2023:
  1. Literature review search on topics, such as mindfulness and meditation
  2. Synthesize literature review by writing annotated bibliography
  3. Provide directions on interview questions
  4. Recruit participants for a pilot interview study
  5. Conduct a pilot test
  6. Conduct interviews
*This position will be a of on-site.

Required Qualifications

  1. Has taken courses in research methods or conducted independent research projects using either qualitative, quantitative or mixed-method approaches.
  2. Able to commit to a set schedule.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

1. Has experience conducting interviews and analyzing qualitative data.
2. Dependable, organized, detail oriented, demonstrates initiative, and has a positive attitude.
3. Must have a good work ethic and be self‐driven to complete tasks.
