Student Hourly - Wingspan Peer Tutor
Position Overview
Peer Tutors meet with students regularly to review content in a specific class. They are student role models who enjoy engaging their peers in the learning process. Tutors are hired year-round, although the need for additional tutors will vary during the semester and between semesters.
Peer Tutors will support tutoring by tutoring for classes they received a B- or higher in. Peer Tutors must be available to tutor for a minimum of 4 hours per week through the last week of classes. To prepare for their roles, Peer Tutors are expected to attend: Peer Tutor Training prior to their start date. Peer Tutors are expected to work 4-20 hours per week for the full length of the Spring 2025 semester, excluding academic breaks.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description
Facilitate and Foster Student Learning (70%):
- Engaging students in learning course/subject content
- Suggesting appropriate study strategies to learn course/subject content
- Facilitate in-person, virtual, and/or drop-in tutoring appointments and support.
- Create an encompassing and safe environment for learning
- Attend biweekly professional development and tutoring training meetings
- Complete asynchronous professional development and tutoring training as assigned
- Attend all mandatory training upon hire and as scheduled throughout each semester by the Tutoring Program Coordinator
- Help prepare materials and resources for tutoring sessions.
- Provide updates and insights to the Tutoring Program Coordinator to enhance the tutoring program.
Required Qualifications
- Earned a B- or higher in the course(s) selected to tutor at KU or an equivalent course that credit was transferred for from another college institution within the last 4 years; or in a higher-level course in the same discipline, as evidenced by the Degree Progress Report (DPR) or unofficial transcript. Consideration may be given in unique circumstances to students interested in tutoring a course they have not taken, per approval of the Tutoring Program Coordinator.
- Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA as evidenced by the DPR.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

- Tutoring or teaching experience. A strong desire and enthusiasm to help students learn.
