Position Overview

The Native Storytelling Workshop is looking for Student Resident Assistants for the fourth workshop scheduled for June 2-6, 2025, at the University of Kansas.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

  • 60% - Supervising campers. Resident Assistants will be on duty overnight and stay in the residence hall (Self Hall) with the workshop students. They will work with the directors of the workshop to ensure that all camp, KU, and residence hall rules are followed and that students make their way safely to and from classes. They will also be responsible for helping students with homework.
  • 20% - Helping run registration, leading campus tours, supervising campers and helping workshop teachers with instruction.
  • 20% - Participating in fun camp activities, such as dinner and games.

Required Qualifications

  1. Availability (mostly in the evenings) from evening of Sunday, June 1, 2025 through mid-day Friday, June 6, 2025.
  2. Must be 18 years of age or older by the time of appointment.
  3. Must successfully complete a criminal background check prior to beginning work.
  4. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior experience working with youth.
  2. KU Indigenous Studies or Journalism major or minor; or experience/involvement with the KU Native
  3. Storytelling Workshop.

Work Schedule
