Student Imaging Technician, Digital Initiatives & Discovery Services


Position Overview

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

  • 80% - Under the supervision of the Digital Imaging Coordinator, student will participate in internal digitization projects, which includes the use of digital cameras, flatbed scanners, and planetary scanners. Student will also create metadata and conduct quality assurance on digital images.
  • 20% - Student may be called upon to assist other library staff with additional creation of digital resources. Student must be able to pay attention to detail, learn new technologies quickly, and be able to work independently once they have been given a task, asking questions as needed.

Required Qualifications

  1. Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail as evidenced in the application materials.
  2. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with photography, digital cameras, and/or scanners.
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  3. Knowledge of and experience with digital imaging and metadata creation.
  4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a production-oriented environment.
  5. Experience using image editing software as Adobe software, Capture One, Scan Tailor etc.
  6. Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlooks and Teams.
  7. Experience working in museums or libraries.
  8. Experience in handling fragile, oversized, or unwieldy materials.
  9. Ability to adapt to new technologies and independently problem-solve.

Advertised Salary Range

11.50/hr

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday between 8 AM - 5:30 PM pm, 10 - 20 hours per week based on class schedule.
