Student KAP Tutor - POOL


Position Overview

KAP tutors will tutor students enrolled in MATH 002 and MATH 101 at KU.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

KAP Tutors will tutor students enrolled in Math 002 and Math 101 and assist with understanding assignments and clarifying concepts as needed. Tutors will also proctor and grade common exams and oversee the computer lab. Additionally, tutors will be assigned as class assistants to help with classroom activities and instructions as vacancies arise. There may be additional opportunities to lead study groups of 3-4 students in some semesters.
Duties include:
  • Tutor: 50%
  • Class Assistant: 30%
  • Grader and Proctor: 20%

Required Qualifications

  1. Completion of Math 116, Math 126, or higher by August 2025. A grade of A or B is preferred.
  2. Strong command of the English language as evidenced by application material or during initial interview.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly)
