Student Library Assistant/Data Entry
Position Overview
The Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), located on West Campus, is seeking a student employee to support its public library and archives operations. Duties include archiving state geological records, data entry, and providing in-person assistance to staff and library patrons. This position offers valuable experience in records management, data organization, and customer service.
Hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Flexible scheduling is available within these business hours, and the start date is flexible.

Job Description
75% - Records Digitization and Data Management
- Enter and maintain data in electronic databases with a high degree of accuracy.
- Scan historical and geological records for archival preservation and access.
- Review and proofread data entries and scanned documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and quality.
- Sort, organize, and incorporate records into established filing systems.
- Maintain physical and electronic records according to archival standards.
- Assist with the retrieval and storage of records as needed.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with supervisors, staff, and library patrons.
- Respond to information requests and assist patrons in locating resources and records.
- Provide courteous in-person support to visitors and researchers.
- Perform additional administrative, archival, or library support duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience with data entry, as indicated in application materials.
Position Requirements
- Ability to retrieve, transport, and file records, which may include pushing rolling shelving units, using a step ladder, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in archival storage and records management areas and occasionally handle historical documents that may be dusty, musty, or otherwise affected by long-term storage conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Availability to work shifts of at least two consecutive hours.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
