Position Overview
KU Recreation Services provides a variety of resources for wellness, physical fitness, team, and individual sports, group fitness classes, and personal training. Indoor and outdoor facilities accommodate a broad range of athleticism -- from beginners looking to improve their health with low impact exercise to seasoned athletes aspiring to push their physical abilities to the next level.
A Student Maintenance Program Manager will implement and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the university recreational and fitness facilities are in excellent working order.

Job Description
Duties include but are not limited to the following:

- Oversee and manage all Student Maintenance Assistant schedules, training and hiring.
- Delegation of appropriate tasks to Maintenance Assistants.
- Ensure completion of assigned tasks specific to Student Recreation properties (Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center, Sand Volleyball and Tennis Courts, Central Field and Shenk Complex).
- Ensure staff is on task with responsibilities/expectations specific to program area.
- Assist with dissemination of information to Maintenance Assistants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Clean fitness equipment and facilities.
- General housekeeping (cleaning windows and mirrors, sweeping floors, trash and recycling removal, etc.)
- Minor repair work.
- Outside landscaping work and cleaning at Student Recreation properties.
- Recognize and report safety hazards which may cause injury (i.e.: poor lighting, slippery floors, hazardous equipment, inclement weather, etc.).
- Snow and ice removal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Build and maintain Student Maintenance Assistant schedules and task lists.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Obtain CPR/AED, weapon awareness safety training and Concussion certifications within one month of hire (training is provided).
Required Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as shown in application materials.
- Must be able to attend all-staff training on the Tuesday before fall semester, August 18, 2026, and a staff meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- All decisions, actions, and work habits maintain a high level of integrity and consistency.
- Eligible for Work-Study Program.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
