Student Maintenance Assistant


Position Overview

Student Maintenance Assistants at the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center are responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all users. Duties include upkeep of sports fields, landscaping, sand volleyball courts, and snow removal, as well as operating small motor machinery. Effective communication with guests, co-workers, and administration is essential. Assistants must be self-motivated, punctual, and committed to completing assigned tasks during each shift.

Job Description

  • Dust, clean, and sanitize items such as CRT equipment, indoor track, window frames, restrooms, hardwood floors, glass, walls of racquetball courts and indoor soccer arena, trash removal, etc. (25%)
  • Perform various maintenance duties to ensure the quality and safety of equipment for guests at the ASRFC. (15%)
  • Sports field upkeep, including mowing, trimming, and general maintenance to ensure safe and clean play areas. (15%)
  • Landscaping tasks, such as planting, weeding, mulching, and watering, to maintain the appearance of the grounds. (15%)
  • Sand volleyball court upkeep, including raking, leveling sand, and ensuring nets and boundaries are properly maintained. (10%)
  • Trash and recycling removal and management, ensuring all areas are clean and free of waste. (10%)
  • Snow removal duties during winter months to ensure clear and safe walkways and entrances. (5%)
  • Operating small motor machinery, such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and snow blowers, as required for maintenance tasks. (5%)

Required Qualifications

  • Available to work at various times throughout the entire day (early mornings, afternoons, evenings)
  • Work well with others and be able to follow assigned tasks
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Past work experience at a recreation or sports complex, preferably with a cleaning emphasis
  • Available to work on weekends and during school breaks
  • CPR Certification
  • Eligible for Work-Study Program
