Student Office Assistant


Position Overview

The student office assistant will perform clerical tasks, create and manage social media content, and assist with special projects as assigned for the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS).

Job Description

  • 20% - Create and manage content for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • 25% - Work with Center staff on campus events and outreach activities.
  • 25% - Assist with special projects as assigned. Work will also include highly specialized and detail-oriented projects related to East Asian courses, community and educational outreach and other activities related to the U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) grant. Must have strong written and oral communication skills as well as being both punctual and reliable.
  • 30% - Clerical tasks including data entry and formatting in Word and Excel. Perform office maintenance tasks such as copying and scanning, running errands, and preparing mailings, brochures and other printed and online materials.

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments.)
  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook as indicated in application materials.
  3. Knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  4. Coursework in East Asian studies.
  5. Available to work 10 hours per week as stated in application materials.
  6. Eligibility for Federal Work Study.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in an office environment.
  2. Experience with photography.
  3. Experience with an East Asian language.
  4. Experience with Adobe creative suite.
  5. Experience with data entry and formatting in Excel.
  6. Experience working, living, or traveling in East Asia.

Advertised Salary Range

$12.00 per hour

Work Schedule

10 hours weekly between 8am - 5pm, Monday thru Friday with occasional, optional weekend and evening hours.
