Position Overview
The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides speech-language pathology and audiology services to the KU, Lawrence, and surrounding communities. The clinic personnel comprises several clinical professors, staff, and KU undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing. Student office assistants (SOA) provide direct professional assistance to the clinic’s office manager. This includes greeting all SPLH Clinic visitors (e.g., clients, KU students, faculty) to the clinic, as well as office support as outlined below. SOAs are expected to be polite, friendly, dependable, independent, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Job Description
30% - Communication & Inquiry Support
- Respond to emails and phone calls, addressing routine inquiries and directing visitors or callers to the appropriate clinic or department staff.
- Perform general office duties, including sorting mail, running errands, photocopying, scanning, and filing documents.
- Support accurate and timely data entry into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional office environment.
- Greet all visitors in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
- Provide support with additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications

- Excellent written communications skills, as indicated in application materials.
- Experience with using basic computer functions, as indicated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior customer service experience, as indicated in application materials.
- Experience communicating with people with different abilities (e.g., hearing loss, disabilities, etc.), as indicated in application materials.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Outlook, as indicated in application materials.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
