Student Office Assistant


Position Overview

This position provides general support to the department by assisting with administrative functions and helping to create a welcoming and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The role offers opportunities to develop professional, organizational, communication, and customer service skills while contributing to the daily operations of the department. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, punctual, and able to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are preferred. Students must be available to work 8-10 hours per week.

Job Description

100% - Administrative Support
  • Provide administrative support to the department, Administrative Associate, and other team members.
  • Staff the front desk and serve as a welcoming first point of contact for students, visitors, and guests.
  • Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and general inquiries.
  • Assist with promoting and marketing departmental events and activities.
  • Welcome, assist, and provide excellent customer service to students and visitors.
  • Run departmental errands as needed.
  • Photocopy, scan, file, and prepare documents and materials.
  • Support departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with event preparation, setup, and logistics.
  • Maintain organized records and workspaces.
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Majoring in Economics, Marketing, or a related field, as indicated in application materials.
  2. Currently enrolled as a junior, as indicated in application materials.
  3. Experience providing customer service or working with the public, as indicated in application materials.
  4. Experience working in an office or professional environment, as indicated in application materials.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
