Student Office Assistant
Position Overview
This student position plays a vital role in supporting the KU Psychology Department and KU Campus community by creating a welcoming and informative environment for students, visitors, faculty, and staff. The role focuses on enhancing the student experience through general office support. Students in this position contribute to a variety of ways including but not limited to answering the dept phone, receiving requests from staff and faculty, entering grades for TA’s, receiving and sorting mail, handing out office supplies, promoting dept and campus resources, event support, etc.
Job Description
90% - Department Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, students, faculty, and staff in the KU Department of Psychology.
- Provide accurate information and direct individuals to appropriate campus resources and offices.
- Answer incoming calls and assist with inquiries related to student services.
- Distribute certificates and other departmental documents to students.
- Receive, sort, and distribute federal and campus mail for the three departments housed in Fraser Hall.
- Update and refresh posted signage and bulletin board materials in Fraser Hall and around campus as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Provide support for departmental events, including faculty retreats, prospective student visit days, the annual undergraduate recognition ceremony, and similar events.
- Assist with event setup, teardown, attendance, and other event-related tasks as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Must be an undergraduate student, as indicated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Psychology major preferred, as indicated in application materials.
- Federal Work-Study award recipient, as indicated in application materials.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
