Student Office Assistant
Position Overview
This position provides comprehensive administrative and operational support for the Classics Department. The role assists faculty, staff, students, and visitors with a variety of departmental activities, including office administration, project coordination, event support, and special assignments. Success in this position requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service in a collaborative academic environment.
Job Description
50% - Administrative & Operational Support
- Provide broad administrative support to the Classics Department, assisting faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
- Prepare, organize, and distribute departmental materials, correspondence, and resources.
- Assist with scheduling, meeting coordination, and maintaining departmental records.
- Respond to general inquiries and direct requests to appropriate personnel.
- Support departmental initiatives, events, and academic programs through planning and coordination activities.
- Assist with project implementation, tracking deadlines, and ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Compile information, prepare reports, and assist with special projects as needed.
- Provide accurate information regarding departmental programs, services, and procedures.
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact for visitors, students, faculty, and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word) as indicated on application materials.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
