Student Success Assistant


Position Overview

The Office of Student Success at the School of Business creates programs and experiences that help KU business students build meaningful connections, develop leadership capacity, and thrive throughout their college journey. Student Success Assistants partner with professional staff to advance this mission by supporting initiatives that strengthen community, foster belonging, and enhance the student experience within the KU School of Business.

We are seeking an undergraduate student who is passionate about contributing to the student experience and serving as a positive representation of the School of Business community. This role is designed for students who want to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable professional experience.

As a Student Success Assistant, you will help students build connections to the School of Business community, navigate challenges, engage with campus resources, and identify opportunities that support their academic, personal, and professional success.

Throughout their employment, student employees will maintain and manifest positive actions that align with and support the Code of Conduct for the School of Business.

Job Description

40% Student Programming and Project Leadership
  • Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of student success programs and initiatives, including workshops, events, leadership programs, community-building experiences, and meetings.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including materials preparation, room setup, student communications, and on-site event support.
  • Support assessment and evaluation efforts by collecting student feedback, tracking participation, and assisting with data-informed program improvements.
  • Provide peer support to students experiencing academic challenges by helping identify strategies, engagement opportunities, and campus resources that support academic success and persistence.
30% Administration
  • Serve as a steward of the MSP-B Lounge by maintaining a welcoming, organized, and clean environment.
  • Assist with administrative and operational functions, including scheduling meetings, managing communications, organizing materials, and supporting office projects.
  • Create and update bulletin boards, promotional materials, and other communications that highlight resources, opportunities, and student success initiatives.
20% Student Outreach & Engagement
  • Serve as ambassador for Student Success during events, programs, and outreach activities.
  • Develop creative strategies to increase awareness of Student Success programs and encourage student participation and engagement.
  • Connect students with appropriate School of Business and university resources that support their academic, personal, and professional growth.
10% Other Duties as Assigned
  • Complete special projects and other duties that support the goals of the Office of Student Success.

Required Qualifications

  1. Previous experience providing high-quality customer service or previous office experience.
  2. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience using Canva, Adobe Express, or other graphic design tools.
  2. Experience executing multiple projects simultaneously.
  3. Demonstrated initiative and leadership through employment, student organizations, volunteer service, athletics, research, entrepreneurship, or other involvements.
  4. Availability to work some evenings (6-8 pm) or weekends for special events up to twice a month.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
