Student Weather Lab Manager
Position Overview
The Weather Lab Manager is responsible for supporting meteorological data collection and maintaining technical operations within the Department. This role ensures that daily cooperative weather observations are accurately recorded and reported to the National Weather Service from the campus observation site. Additionally, the manager oversees the MACH computer lab, ensuring that all computers and printers are functioning properly and that any technical issues are promptly communicated to system administrators. This position plays a key role in maintaining the reliability of both scientific data and computing resources.
Job Description
60% – MACH Computer Lab Oversight
- Oversees the MACH computer lab, ensuring that computers and printers are functioning properly and that any issues are reported to system administrators.
40% – Meteorological Observations Management
- Responsible for ensuring that all cooperative meteorological observations are taken daily in the morning on campus and reported to the National Weather Service.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to read weather instruments.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed ATMO 105 and is pursuing an atmospheric science degree, as indicated in application materials.
