Summer Venture in Business Student Daytime Counselor


Position Overview

The School of Business is hiring students to be a Daytime Counselor for the Summer Venture in Business academy (SVB). SVB is a pre-college summer academy for six consecutive days for two sessions designed to familiarize high school students with aspects of the business world, along with aspects of the college experience, in and out of the classroom.

Throughout their employment, student employees will maintain and manifest positive actions that align with and support the Code of Conduct for the School of Business.
  • Meals during the SVB academy sessions are provided.
  • E-points will be awarded to School of Business students at completion of job responsibilities.

Job Description

80%: During the SVB academy sessions, counselors will be responsible for accompanying and supervising program participants throughout all aspects of the program including meals, class sessions, activities, and off-campus excursions. Counselors will serve on formal and informal panels about the college selection process, the transition from high school to college, college life, and their experience as KU students.

20%: SVB Counselors will be responsible for assisting with the planning and execution of Summer Venture in Business activities, including assisting with administrative tasks associated with the delivery of the SVB program such as contacting SVB applicants to confirm their attendance, assisting with check-in/check-out and collecting participant paperwork.

SVB academy sessions are Sunday, June 15 through Friday, June 20, 2025, and Sunday, July 13 through Friday, July 18, 2025.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be a current KU student (any major/ any level).
    • Student Hourlies may be for undergraduate or graduate students.
  2. SVB Counselors will need to be available May 1, 2025, through July 21, 2025.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
    1. have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
    2. be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
    3. be enrolled in summer session or
    4. be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be for undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Current KU Business School student.

Advertised Salary Range
