KU’s Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support offers a portfolio of collaborative, innovative academic support programs and services to students, faculty, and staff. The Wingspan provides individual and group support through its Peer Academic Coaching program, Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Tutoring Services, and Writing Center Services. The Wingspan is a part of the University Academic Support Centers (UASC), a comprehensive student support program consisting of two unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University’s commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Affairs.
Position Overview:
The Supplemental Instruction Program Assistant for SI assists the Supplemental Instruction Coordinator with the coordination of SI including the planning of SI Leader trainings and meetings, creating surveys/evaluations, and compiling of assessment data, and communicating regularly with the SI Leaders.

Job Description
Program Operations & Administrative Support (35%)
- Help schedule SI sessions and communicate schedules to SI Leaders
- Communicate with SI Leaders and students about scheduling or program updates.
- Assist in planning and facilitating the trainings and meetings prior to and throughout the semester
- Assist in scheduling and conducting interviews of candidates
- Help create SI Leader training materials and resources.
- Prepare promotional materials for the SI Program
- Review assignments on Canvas and provide feedback
- Schedule and conduct SI Leader observations and follow-up meetings
- Share feedback and observations with the SI Coordinator.
- Help identify what’s working well and where SI Leaders might need extra support.
- Collect and summarize feedback from SI Leaders and students.
- Assist with simple data tracking and reports that show program trends.
- Help with newsletters, outreach, or social media to share program updates.
Required Qualifications
- In good academic standing.
- Attention to detail as demonstrated by application materials and work experience.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently while also collaborating with professional staff as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Teams, and Excel as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an SI Leader and/or a student participant in the SI Program.
- Demonstrated experience in training and public speaking as evidenced by coursework and/or work experience.
- Excellent verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the interview.
- Prior experience in an office/customer service setting.
- Prior experience using Adobe InDesign and/or Canva as evidenced by application materials.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with KU facilities, services, and processes.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
