UASC Office Assistant


Position Overview

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support program consisting of three unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University’s commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Success and includes both the Student Access Center (SAC) and the Center for Learning and Writing Support (Wingspan).

As an Office Assistant, you will provide general office support to administrative assistants and professional staff in the University Academic Support Centers. You may be assigned to work in one or more Centers based on scheduling needs and your availability. Daily responsibilities include assisting office visitors, answering phone inquiries, responding to emails, assembling print materials, delivering mail across campus, managing the calendar and appointments of multiple professional staff, and assisting with special projects based on which Center you are staffing.

Job Description

  • 40% Lobby and front desk reception, including answering phones and assisting students, parents, and faculty in the space
  • 40%Calendar and appointment management
  • 20% special projects, including student outreach, social media support, department and service marketing, print and promotional material assembly, event tabling and presentations

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments) 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior experience in an office/customer service setting.
  2. Knowledge of basic office procedures, including experience with heavy volumes of phone traffic.
  3. Ability to work with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Commitment to supporting KU students in accessing UASC services, as evidenced by application materials and interview.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality and be sensitive to the needs of those utilizing UASC services.
  6. Experience with tabling events, information fairs, and properly presenting information.
