Video Production Assistant


Position Overview

The School of Education & Human Sciences is looking for a creative, curious and technically skilled individual to help tell our stories visually through engaging video content for sharing across our social media and other digital channels. The video production assistant will work with the communications and recruitment team to plan and execute video productions (both shooting and editing) ranging in scope and subject matter, including but not limited to: student and faculty interviews/profiles, recruitment pieces, and short graphics-based videos. You will bring fresh ideas to the team for new projects with the goal of engaging current and prospective students, alumni, and other stakeholders.

This is a fast-paced role that will require organization and a clear understanding of editing software, filming techniques and best practices, and cinematography. The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about film and visual storytelling, should be comfortable collaborating in team settings. The position requires experience in all aspects of video production, especially in the post-production phases. The videos will primarily be used on social media, so experience working with social media is a plus.

Job Description

  • Work with communications/recruitment team to plan and execute video assignments at multiple events, programs, and campus locations across KU and in the School of Education & Human Sciences for use on social media, website, and other communication channels, including interviews and profiles with faculty, students, alumni and others. (40%)
  • Process and edit videos for final use (40%)
  • Upload videos to shared server/file location in appropriate formats (10%)
  • Keep communications team informed about progress on a weekly basis (10%)

Required Qualifications

  1. Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software
  2. Experience with video technology, DSLR camera shooting, audio and lighting equipment
  3. Video production/editing skills as evidenced in application materials
  4. Problem solving and communication skills as evidenced in application materials
  5. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills as evidenced by application materials.
  6. Available to work in 2 (or more) consecutive hour increments.
  7. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  8. Must be in good academic standing.
  9. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating motion graphics
  • Previous office/clerical experience
  • Federal Work Study eligible
  • Experience in photography and animation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with:
    • Adobe After Effects CS6
    • Adobe Photoshop CS6
    • PC Operating Systems

Advertised Salary Range
