Associate Researcher
Position Overview
The University of Kansas Computational Chemical Biology Core facility provides computational resources and expertise to enhance the productivity of researchers studying infectious diseases. This position is responsible for performing a variety of computational tasks including docking, virtual screening, molecular modeling, cheminformatics, molecular dynamic simulations, and other associated computational approaches for clients of the Computational Chemical Biology (CCB) Core facility.
Job Description
Perform Computational Chemical Biology Services for Client Projects (80%)
- Execute client requested computational chemical biology simulations and analyses.
- Generate and provide professional project reports of services provided with associated data files to meet the client documentation needs with a commitment to the highest standards of scientific quality and ethics.
- Coordinate and train clients and associated personnel on the use of computational chemical biology hardware and software.
- Maintain a record of time spent working on each project.
- Participate in local/regional meetings in presenting the core lab posters locally at small meetings.
Administration of CCB Core infrastructure (10%)
- Assist with the maintenance of CCB laboratory infrastructure and software environment to include: installing/building software, setting up new workstations, and writing a few scripts to simplify core lab processes.
Scientific Research (10%)
- Participate in meetings, presentations, and conferences relevant to CCB services and research at the local and regional levels. Co-author participation as writing the methodology sections from the reports.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline and strong computational background or a M.S. and 3 years of experience in computational biology.
- Familiarity with molecular modeling software and applications.
- Excellent written communication skills, as evidenced in application materials.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills as evidenced during the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with molecular dynamics simulations and analyses, cheminformatics, medicinal chemistry, and/or deep learning approaches.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals, proceedings, or books in subjects relevant to the CCB lab or chemical biology research.
