Picture of Marta Caminero-SantangeloMarta Caminero-Santangelo traveled from Yale University, where she completed her bachelor’s with honors, to the University of California-Irvine for her master's and doctorate, before settling at KU's English department in 1997. An award-winning professor who specializes in Latino/a and women's literature, she is also chair. She and her husband, Byron, who is also a faculty member in the English department, have two children: Nicola, 11, and Gabe, 8. Besides being their shuttle driver, Marta's also an immigrant-rights activist, indulges in "very amateur" photography, and takes body-pump classes at the Student Rec Center.
