Library Assistant (2 openings)


Position Overview

The Kansas Geological Survey is currently hiring TWO Library Assistants. The Library Assistants will sort, compare, scan, and digitize wireline logs. They will also recycle and integrate into permanent collections as needed and enter data

The appointments are 32 hours per week, during business hours (8a-5p, Monday through Friday), supported by project funding that has limited-term funding. One position will be offered for two years and the second position will be offered for one year; both positions are benefits-eligible. These positions are required to work on-site at the Kansas Geological Survey in Lawrence, KS.

Job Description

90%: Enter data and scan records, and proof data and scans. Digitize wireline logs. Manually move, sort, and organize current collections. Recycle or integrate current e-logs into permanent collection at supervisor’s discretion.

10%: Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  1. Ability to push rolling bookcases in confined area, climb step ladders, and lift 15-20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  2. Ability to work in storage areas, capable of working with old documents which may be dusty, musty, or moldy, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required Qualifications

The qualifications will be measured by application material, interviews, and references.
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Minimum of one year library or related experience.
  3. Experience with organizing, categorizing, and shelving oil and gas records.
  4. Experience with data entry.
  5. Experience working with Neuralog scanner.
  6. Experience digitizing wireline logs.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with or previous work experience with records filed by legal land description (section, township, range).
  2. Familiar with oil & gas drillers logs and scout cards
  3. Experience scanning rolled wireline logs made of velum paper.
  4. Experience with working with KGS Oil and Gas database.
