Aerospace Engineering-SOE Undergraduate Teaching Fellow


Position Overview

School of Engineering Undergraduate Teaching Fellows (UGTFs) at the University of Kansas will support faculty instructors with active student engagement in undergraduate engineering courses. Undergraduate Teaching Fellows will guide learning by interacting with students work through problem sets or other activities. Time outside the regular class periods will be to meet with the instructor, facilitate help sessions.
  • AE 245 - Introduction to Aerospace Engineering - Dr. Blinzler
  • AE 345 - Fluid Mechanics - Dr. Taghavi
  • AE 507 - Aerospace Structures 1 - Dr. Ewing
  • AE 550 - Dynamics of Flight 1 - Dr. Keshmiri
  • AE 571 - Fundamentals of Airplane Reciprocating Propulsion System - Dr. Huang

Job Description

  • Help faculty administer activities such as group work, problem solving etc. for improving student learning and engagement in key engineering courses
  • Enhance student learning by interacting with students during the class period by guiding students to maximize concept mastery.
  • Must be able to attend the class assigned to be UGTF for.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through descriptions of work experience, educational experiences, and teaching/tutoring interest in cover letter; record of relevant accomplishments and productivity addressed in one-page resume; and overall GPA and letter grade obtained in specified class

The required qualifications are:
  1. Must have taken specified course or an equivalent class and earned at least a ‘B’ in the course.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated mastery of course content.
  4. The job requires physical presence in the class (approximately 3 hours/week for a 3 credit course) and 2.5 hours/week outside of the class.
  5. Must be continuously enrolled in 6 credit hours in the Fall semester.
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching/Tutoring/Grading experience at a university/college setting.
  • Earned an ‘A’ in course.
