Student Hourly - Student Ambassador


Position Overview

The primary purpose of the School of Architecture & Design Student Ambassadors is to recruit students to the School of Architecture & Design at KU. They will serve as representatives of the School of Architecture & Design for prospective students through such activities as building tours, panels, events, and various outreach efforts aimed at cultivating and fostering an interest in the University of Kansas

Job Description

50% - Meet with and give tours for prospective students and families.
20% - Assist with recruitment events.
10% - Write notes and emails and make phone calls to prospective students from targeted areas.
10% - Assist with recruitment and promotional material updates.
5% - Assist with School of Architecture & Design functions.
5% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  2. KU undergraduate student enrolled, and in good academic standing, in a School of Architecture & Design degree program: BFA in Design (Animation, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication Design), BS in Interior Architecture, or Master of Architecture (M.Arch).
  3. Have completed 30 hours of coursework by the end of Spring 2024 semester.
  4. Previous experience working with the public, as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Strong knowledge of the School of Architecture & Design and ability to learn and understand academic requirements.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of University offices and academic programs.
  5. Ability to establish rapport with peers, students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  6. Ability to set a positive tone for interaction, demonstrating responsibility and respect for other’s rights, feelings, lifestyles, and diverse backgrounds.
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  8. Experience managing social medial accounts on behalf of an organization including Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.
  9. Ability to work in a team and to be flexible.
